Ted Gaines Biography
Ted Gaines is a small business owner who has operated a successful insurance business for more than 30 years. He began working side by side with his father right out of college and continues to grow Gaines Insurance with his wife and one of his daughters, who are also part of the firm.
Ted understands that small businesses are the key to a thriving California and a healthy middle class, and is constantly fighting to make California a better place to do business.
He has received an "A" grade from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Association for five consecutive years and also received a 100 percent score on the California Taxpayers Association’s 2011 Voting Record. In addition, he obtained a perfect "Job Creator" rating from the California Chamber of Commerce and has consistently appeared on the California Small Business Association's honor roll, demonstrating his strong advocacy for taxpayer-friendly measures.
During his first year in the State Senate (2011), Ted achieved two legislative victories with Senate Bills 593 and 751 becoming law, creating greater sunshine and accountability in both the public and private sectors.
Prior to his election to the Senate, Ted represented the 4th Assembly District from 2006 to 2011, where he authored fiscally conservative legislation to cap the state's spending and set aside money into a rainy-day reserve fund.
Known as one of the most accessible public servants, Ted has hit the road throughout the expansive first senate district by annually holding more than 50 town halls, community meetings and various district outreach events.
Ted is a long-time, active member of Bayside Church in addition to numerous other community and professional service activities. As a life-long, avid snow skier, Ted has worked for years on the effort to bring the Winter Olympic Games back to the Sierra.
Ted has been married to his beautiful wife Beth since 1985. They live in Rocklin and are blessed with six children together.
