Chad Mayes Biography
One overarching goal has defined public service for Chad Mayes: to bring a spirit of responsive servant leadership to every position he’s held.
As a voice for conservative financial stewardship of public resources, he’s delivered results by building trust and genuine relationships with colleagues and even political opponents.
First elected to the Yucca Valley Town Council in 2002 then re-elected in 2006 and 2010 by wide margins, Chad was twice chosen by colleagues to serve as Mayor. In each of his years as Councilman and Mayor, Chad’s leadership helped deliver a remarkable record of balanced budgets and no tax increases. Even as the state and national financial crises threatened many neighboring communities, Yucca Valley responded with a disciplined action plan that included significant budget cuts while safeguarding the community’s rainy day fund. When Chad left office, the community had 40% of its budget in reserves.
On frequent trips to Sacramento and Washington DC, Chad became a recognizable advocate in the battle to bring a greater dollar-for-dollar return on taxpayer investments. As a representative to the League of California Cities, he became a strong and visible advocate for shifting power away from state and federal governments to local communities. It’s an approach he continues to champion.
Chad and Shanon Mayes live in his lifelong hometown of Yucca Valley. The son of a pastor, he is a committed Christian and leader in his local church. A former Financial Advisor and Tax Accountant, Chad currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Chair of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, Janice Rutherford. Chad is a graduate of Liberty University.
